Located in the centre of Europe, Vienna is captivating with its multiethnic flair and thus represents a perfect venue for such an integrative football event.
Local migrant clubs, football teams from Vienna and international guests from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Macedonia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary will come together to play football. About 50 clubs are expected to participate with their U10 and U12 teams.
Vienna meets Balkan is not only an empty phrase. Apart from the football matches, the tournament offers a great opportunity to deepen the intercultural exchange and take a common stand against nationalism and racism in sport. On 19 May FairPlay will host an evening event in the Viennese Ost*Klub inviting the players and trainers to join in, have fun and participate in creative and educative workshops. A catering as well as musical entertainment will be arranged.
The international „Vienna meets Balkan“ youth tournament is co-funded by the City of Vienna, the districts of Vienna Leopoldstadt, Floridsdorf and Donaustadt and is backed by the Austrian FA and the Austrian Ministry for Sports.
The youth tournament is part of the international project "Football Unites the Alps, Adriatic and the Balkans" that is organised in co-operation with UEFA, the FAs from Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and the FYR of Macedonia and supported by the King Baudouin Foundation.
