From Warsaw to London

EURO '12 is over, the Olympic Games are in their second week. What the 2 events have in common? Gay sportspeople are rare and measures against homophobia are set by NGOs. A recommended link-list by FairPlay.

Pride House at the Olympics

Pride House, the informational centre, social presence of the LGBT community for the London 2012 Olympics is to be based at CA House in Limehouse Basin, East London.

The modest Pride House will be “a welcoming place to relax, learn and exchange” and host an exhibition about the history of LGBT sport, screen live action from the Games and put on live music, discussions and sports activities, including a Football v Homophobia football tournament.

Londons calling

More than 12.000 participating athletes, 21 of them are openly gay. That are 21 more than at EURO '12, nevertheless the incredibly low number shows, that homophopia is still preventing sportspeople from coming out.

Kick it out!

“I feel like sports in general are still homophobic,(...)”, Rapinoe says. “I feel everyone is really craving [for] people to come out. People want - they need - to see that there are people like me playing soccer for the good ol’ U.S. of A.” ---- Interesting interview with a great soccer player!

Londons burning

We don't want to ignore, that here is also a lot of critique against the Olympic Games. Critical interventions are focussing on problems of commercialisation, militarisation of the city and an increasing surveillance of citizens as well as rising rents and the cutting of social welfare.
