Football for Equality

About Football Zajedno

In 2007, VIDC-fairplay together with the Balkan Alpe Adria Project (BAAP) kicked off a FARE programme supported by the Nike Stand Up, Speak Up fund aimed at “fighting nationalism and develop youth exchanges in the Balkans”. Given the successful and rich sport culture in the time before the civil wars, it became obvious that sport and in particular football is offering strong potentials to promote understanding, tolerance, solidarity and social inclusion on national and international level. At a later stage UEFA stepped in and supported the joint “Football Unites the Alps, Adriatic and the Balkans” (2012/13-2015/16) project, which brought together the main football-governing bodies in the region as well as NGOs and grassroots initiatives.

In July 2016 the new project “Football Zajedno - Promoting Equality and Non-Discrimination through Football” started that will run from 2016/17 until 2019/2020. The joint project is coordinated by the fairplay initiative and the Balkan Alpe Adria Project (BAAP) in cooperation with the football associations of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia. Football Zajedno is funded through UEFA’s HatTrick programme.
